1 Overview & Global Functions

1.1 Summary

This disc contains an interactive game. You will play the role of ‘Lance’ and you must try to survive in a world full of danger.

Your enemy ‘Fritz’ will follow you throughout the whole game. Your purpose is to beat the ‘Brain’ and to make the whole place safe again.

2 Program Structure

2.1 Starting

When you start up this CD-i application, the program will first play the Philips Bumper. At the end of this sequence, or when interrupting it, the program will automatically show the Logo screen. After 5 seconds, or when interrrupting this logo, the program will play the introduction sequence. After this intro, or again when interrupting it, the program will enter the main menu.

2.2 Main Menu

In the main menu there are four visible hotspots:

  • NEW: When you select this hotspot, the program will start a new game. This does not alter the settings saved in the NV-RAM.
  • LOAD: When you select this hotspot, you will go to the slots menu.
  • SETTINGS: When you select this hotspot the program will enter the settings menu.
  • CREDITS: This hotspot lead you to the credits which scroll over the screen.

  • Time out: After 30 seconds of time out in the main menu, the game is started in Demo mode. When the demo is over (or interrupted by pushing a button) the application goes back to the Main menu.
2.3 Slots Menu

In this menu there are three visible hotspots.

Hotspots:

  • Slot 1: For player Fritz
  • Slot 2: For player Vivi
  • Slot 3: For player Moose

Coming from the main menu: ‘Load game’.

  • For all three slots, the game start with the settings saved in the selected slot in NV-RAM. (if there is none present the program will start a new game)

Coming from the save menu: ‘Save game’.

  • For all three slots, the settings of the current game are saved in the selected slot in NV-RAM, then the program return to the main menu.

Time out: see main menu.

2.4 Settings Menu

In this menu there are five hotspots.

  • OFF: to turn off the sound effect.
  • LOW: to set a consistent attenuation of the effect.
  • MEDIUM: to set a medium attenuation of the effect.
  • HIGH: don’t set attenuation of the sound effect.
  • POSITION VIDEO: when you select this hotspot the program will play the intro sequence with a grey border. To choose new position, move the controller to the left or to the right. To quit the intro sequence click on button 1 and/or 2. The new position is saved in NV-RAM and the application return to main menu.
  • Time out: the same as in Main menu.
  • Comment: the sound effect is a hint for the player.
2.5 Game

Actions: Left, Right, Up and Down indicate the direction to be followed by Lance.

Others: When you select button 1/2 or the ‘Stop’ button, the program will enter the ‘SAVE’ menu.

In the game there is no life-limit.

2.6 Save Menu

This menu has three visible hotspots.

  • SAVE: To go to the SLOTS menu
  • CONTINUE: To start the game from the beginning of the scene where it was interrupted.
  • EXIT: To go to the main menu.
  • Others: Time out -> see main menu.
2.7 Possible Solution

  • L: Stands for left
  • R: Stands for right
  • U: Stands for up
  • D: Stands for down
  • F: Stands for fire
